Tantsu®

Land-based Watsu®

Presence, breath, and touch brought to land

Tantsu is the land-based extension of Watsu, where the same presence, care, and deep listening are translated into grounded, full-body contact.
It is an experience of being held without expectation, where the body is supported in nurturing positions, often called cradles. Within this stillness and flow, breath becomes the guide, movement arises spontaneously, and deep relaxation unfolds.

How does Tantsu® work?

Rooted in the principles of Zen Shiatsu, Tantsu emphasizes being rather than doing. The giver listens with their whole body, breathing in harmony with the one receiving. Through coordinated, intuitive movement and quiet, sustained support, a shared field of safety and openness is created. Cradling, passive stretches, and subtle pressure points invite the body to soften and the mind to rest.

Tantsu is both a healing modality and a practice of connection. It brings the unconditional holding of Watsu onto land, offering deep contentment, trust, and a return to the simplicity of presence.

What to expect from a session?

Tantsu is practiced fully clothed on a mat or table in a calm, quiet space. The receiver is gently held in supported positions, such as cradles, which offer full-body containment without pressure or force. Movements arise intuitively, often guided by the breath, allowing space for spontaneous flow, passive stretching, and subtle shiatsu point work.

The giver listens not just with the hands but with the whole body, creating a safe, responsive environment where nothing needs to be fixed or done. The experience may include moments of silence, movement, deep stillness, and emotional resonance.

Tantsu can also be shared in group formats such as Flower Rounds or Explorer Rounds, where participants take turns being held, holding, and guiding, all with eyes closed. These collective practices deepen listening and connection, preparing participants to give a complete Tantsu session with presence and skill.

Sessions typically last 45 to 60 minutes and leave a lasting impression of calm, openness, and restored inner space..
